Last Friday I found out that my contract at Mylan is not being renewed, so I’m back to looking heavily for a full time position. It looks like this time, armed with some experience, I’m going to go on a three pronged attack, something I didn’t do last time. Below are the three ways I’m going about it, and my thoughts and experiences in each. If you have any suggestions for tactics or additional ways to search for jobs, please let me know!

Job Board(s)
I’ve really had an awful experience with job boards such as Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com, Jobs.com, and Craigslist. Out of over 250 resumes sent out, the only responses I got were from companies that were 100% commission life insurance companies or multi-level marketing companies that completely lied on their job listings. The only site really keeping my faith in them has been LinkUp, a site that pulls the job listings from companies’ job boards. I have also been reading What Would Dad Say, a job search blog that so far has been very enlightening, I recommend reading it even if you aren’t searching for a job.

Staffing Firms
It took me about an entire year until I started sending my resume in to places like Robert Half. After getting burned a few times, Robert Half was able to find me a temporary position at Mylan in less than a month of signing up with them. It was awesome to start getting some professional experience on my resume, and meeting some great people that are going to be awesome references (thanks!). This time, as much as the staffing firms dislike it, I have to try every way possible to get a job before September 1, which means multiple staffing firms. I have a few in mind to try out, and even have an Aunt that works in one as well. So worst case scenario here, I get another temporary job.

Family and Friends
I come from a gigantic family all living in the same area, along with growing up here, and have a ton of contacts. One would think that due to this, I wouldn’t be having this job problem, but here we are. I am going to be going through as many of my contacts around here as I can seeing if anyone knows of anything, and already have a few people in mind to talk to.

My goal is to apply for at least two jobs every day before noon, so I better stop writing today and get going with that.
